What was your admissions process to Summer on the Hill like?

The moment I remember from the admissions process, was coming in to the lower school cafeteria and meeting Mrs. Julia Baez-Veliz to get an exam booklet. I was so nervous and started to cry, but Mrs. Baez-Veliz comforted me and told me to try my best. That day I met other students taking the test and some of those students later became close friends of mine during the program.

Was there a particular teacher or administrator who stands out for you?

Ms. Olga Torres was a teacher who went above and beyond to make sure all of us understood the material. She showed a great passion for Language Arts, especially Greek Mythology, and made all of the class assignments and projects fun and interesting. Coming to her class was something I always looked forward to.

What would your adult self tell your young self about taking a leap of faith with Summer on the Hill?

Perhaps as a child, you may think you don't want to wake up early on Saturdays and during the summer to do more schoolwork, but one day you will look back and be so thankful for, not only the extra knowledge you acquired at SOH, but also the supportive staff, amazing friends and wonderful memories. SOH is more than just "extra school." SOH is a community of students that will help you grow, will foster new curiosities about life, and will help challenge you to become a better person.

What is your favorite memory at Summer on the Hill?

Getting to see my friends everyday, participating in sports and musical theater, and going to John Dorr were all amazing memories.

What advice would you give current Summer on the Hill students?

Take advantage of all that Summer on the Hill has to offer, including the resources that go beyond graduation. The SAT prep courses I attended helped me prepare for my college admission. Connect with alumni, stay in touch with your friends and staff- SOH is a family that stays with you.
