Each fall, SOH sends information about the program to every public elementary school in the Bronx and every public elementary school in Manhattan above 96th Street. Schools may nominate up to five students to apply to SOH. Families begin the admissions process after their child has been nominated to SOH.

Nominated students apply by:

Filling out the application given to them by their school
Participating in an Admissions Review Session in order to interact in a classroom environment with our faculty
Selected students participate in a parent/child interview with a member of the admissions staff so that we can meet the candidate and his or her family

Students’ families are required to submit tax information and a financial statement. The admissions staff carefully reviews all applications and information about each applicant.  SOH’s acceptance rate is 17%.

Although the admissions process is long, we believe it is important to take the time to know our young candidates through a variety of means. The process has brought hundreds of wonderful children to SOH!
